Early Vision
Early in his career, in the 1980s, whilst still in his studies, Garrisson dabbled in his first project, advising on the transformation of the old Melbourne CBD's Cavendish House, the current location of the upscale Gimlet restaurant. Although the building was mostly vacant and used for the rag trade then, he saw its potential and had a clear vision for its future.
Upshot
Garrisson's vision for Cavendish House went beyond recognizing its potential; he actively pursued its transformation. With unwavering confidence, he got to work, collaborating with top architects to convert the building into a unique apartment complex with ground and basement restaurants. He also co-ordinated feasibility studies, sourced the developer, and negotiated the acquisition of the building This early foray into real estate development showcased his aptitude and gift for the industry, and his vision brought a substantial profit for the property owners who sold the building.
